 2019 Updates

  • Spreading the Word
  • The Missionary Fraternity has had a presence on the opposite coast of Panama since 1993, with two missions in the Colon Province on the Caribbean Sea: Sagrada Familia Parish and Maria Auxiliadora Parish.
  • The Difficult Journey
  • The Diocese of Chitre is located in Los Santos, in the south of Panama, on the Pacific Ocean. Chitre is 223 miles from Panama City.  Due to the inhospitable terrain and the poor condition of the highways, the journey takes about five hours.  This impoverished area is rural and under-developed, and the inhabitants eke out a living with subsistence farming or raising livestock. The main crop is rice, but currently the farmers are having problems selling their rice.
  • Mission work at the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria Parish in Chitre, Panama.
  • Working with impoverished communities, the Fraternity emphasizes the relevance of and importance of the values found in Scripture: love, justice, equality, and respect.  These missionaries promote respect for the inalienable rights of each human being, such as life, decent housing, food, work, and a just wage.
